Description

DEFINITION:
Under general supervision performs various semi-skilled maintenance and unskilled labor work related to Mid-Way Regional Airport working for the City of Waxahachie or other related areas. Performs a variety of technical tasks relative to assigned areas of responsibility. Performs other duties as assigned.

CHARACTERISTICS:
This is the entry - journey level class in the Maintenance Worker series. Employees within this class are distinguished from the Senior Maintenance Worker by the performance of the full range of duties as assigned with no supervisory responsibility. Employees at this level receive only occasional instruction assistance or supervision as new or unusual situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit.

Duties and Responsibilities

The duties listed below represent the various types of work that may be performed. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them if the work is related or a logical assignment to this class.

  • Participate in the repair and maintenance of Airport streets/roads Airport Operations Area including operating various equipment in the completion of assigned tasks.
  • When assigned to Airport: Perform various tasks related to the maintenance and repair of airport projects including mowing weed eating tilling and spraying perimeter fence; trim and plant flowers and other plants; repair irrigation systems; pick up trash hangar/building repair runway lights and clean bathrooms.
  • Operate various light equipment including mowers pickup truck chainsaw weed sprayer and other equipment as needed.
  • Perform duties during special events to ensure area is clean safe and supplied for participants
  • Maintain and make minor repair to assigned vehicles tools and equipment; report major repair needs.
  • Adhere to safe work practices and procedures.
  • Respond to public inquiries in a courteous manner; provide information within the area of assignment; resolve complaints in an efficient and timely manner.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS

  • Operations services and activities of a maintenance program.
  • Methods and techniques of maintenance equipment operation.
  • Pertinent Federal State and local laws codes and regulations.
  • Basic principles and procedures of record keeping.
  • Operations services and activities of the city.

  • Operational characteristics of various maintenance equipment and tools.
  • Occupational hazards and standard safety practices.

  • Operate a variety of maintenance equipment in a safe and effective manner.
  • Perform heavy manual labor.

  • Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

Requirements

Education Training and Experience:
High School Diploma or GED plus one year of general maintenance experience.

Licenses and Certificates:
A valid state drivers license is required at the time of appointment and must be maintained throughout employment.
